This session unpacking bibliometrics and altmetrics basics. Understand how researcher profiles like ORCID and Scopus intertwine with impactful metrics in academia. Explore strategic goals achievable through profile maintenance and how responsible metric use aligns with University of Liverpool's commitment to academic excellence. This session sheds light on the University's endorsement of the Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA) and its impact on responsible metric practices. Learn how to leverage metrics ethically to amplify your research impact and align with the University's pursuit of scholarly advancement. Attend to strengthen your research strategies and navigate the academic landscape more effectively.

Participants will gain a solid grasp of the relationship between researcher profiles and metrics, learn practical ways to enhance academic visibility, and understand the University of Liverpool's approach to responsible metric use following DORA principles. Session outline/ plan

By the end of this session, participants will:

  • Understand the basics of biblio- and altmetrics and their responsible use
  • Understand how some of the most used researcher profiles are connected
  • Be able to choose which researcher profiles can help reach a range of goals responsibly and ethically
  • Have the knowledge to make more informed decisions about metrics and researcher profiles

Mareike Wehner (she/her) is the Senior Outputs Development Manager for the Research and Partnership Development team at the University of Liverpool.
